Bigil is a Tamil sports, gangster, commercial drama film directed by Atlee, starring Vijay, Nayanthara in lead roles. After the successful movies like Theri and Mersal from this combination, Bigil is the 3rd movie from the Vijay – Atlee combo. this is for the 1st time Thalapathy Vijay doing a sports movie like Bigil. Bigil is not fully a sports movie. the movie is a mix of emotions, commercial elements and football.

This movie has everything that a normal audience expect from a Vijay film. What makes Bigil more special is, this movie will be one of the best film where we can see Vijay as a performer. The screen presence of Vijay is usually higher in mass scenes. In Bigil, even in an emotional scenes all got stunned with his performance. Rayyappan, an old aged dad is the career best character done by Vijay. the mannerisms, stammering and voice modulation of that character was unbelievable. Vijay also shines as a football player and coach with his usual mass, emotions and style. Rayyappan is the strength of Bigil. This is the pure example that no directors are utilizing the actor Vijay, but making him to do mass masala action scenes to impress fans. Nayanthara got a good role in Bigil, after a long time seeing her in a cool, romantic, funny character.

The movie is a dedication for the women, the 11 Singappengal are the pillars of Bigil. Each and every one had got some space to perform. The flashback story of them was touching part. the conversation between one of them and Vijay near to the door will be one of the best scene in 2nd half. There are also other characters which helped the movie a lot. Jackie Shroff, I.M Vijayan, Daniel Balaji, Yogi Babu, all did a nice job and all the other characters did their part well. Along with many action scenes and comedies, Bigil also strongly highlight the fact women empowerment.

The director Atlee is the hero of Bigil, he gave a festive movie that is better than his previous movies. more than a commercial entertainer, Bigil is an emotional, motivating sports drama. Atlee is well known for handling emotional scenes well. Bigil 1st half is emotional and he made sure that this is the best performance of Vijay. his making and screenplay is extraordinary. the movie is 3 hours, but the audience won’t feel a single minute bored. the movie is colorful with action and emotion. As he said, writing wise Bigil will be his best. The movie is made in grandeur manner. the match scenes and song is perfectly pictured.

AR Rahman’s songs and BGM was top notch. the Maathare song and the 2 tracks that was not there in the album was heart touching. He also surprised as with some mass background score. He is the major highlight of Bigil. The cinematographer GK Vishnu did a fabulous job in Bigil. He is here to amaze us. This is his 2nd movie, but his work is more professional and flawless. the goal shots, the bridge fight scenes were amazing. The movie is well edited by Ruben, but could have been even better.

On the downside, the VFX portions of few match scenes lacked originality. the 1st half could be trimmed. the Unakkaga song felt unwanted. The movie is too lengthy with lot of repetitive scenes from previous Vijay movies. It’s time to stop repeating scenes like throwing chewing gum to mouth, raising hands like Mersal, referring to previous movie scenes. Even that’s for fans, many are fed up on seeing the same scenes in all movies. Unlike the other movies, Bigil doesn’t had that much powerful villain. Finally the movie was predictable.

Atlee is not correcting his mistakes, he is repeatedly making mistakes by taking inspiration (or do i need to call it as copy?) of movie themes and doing movies. With his skills in writing and direction, if he come up with fresh subjects, he will definitely be next Shankar or Rajamouli in next 10 years

It’s enough time for Thalapathy Vijay to step up to next league. With his acting skills, screen presence and super stardom, he needs to more focus on the character and movies rather than choosing commercial, social relevant movies always to impress fans. Rayyappan, Vettrimaran like characters are terrific ones of Vijay. Also need directors like Atlee who can utilize the actor in Vijay.

The movie is a complete festive, family entertainer that will be loved by everyone, especially women. One of the recent best of Thalapathy Vijay and stands greater than Theri and Mersal. A true dedication for Women

Review : Recent best and never seen before movie of Thalapathy Vijay, especially as the character Rayyappan and as a coach. Best one of Vijay – Atlee combo. Gave strong social messages like women empowerment, bringing backward people to front. A perfect festive family entertainer. Few flaws in VFX and cliche story compensated by Atlee’s fabulous screenplay and Thalapathy’s superb performance.
