Kuruthi is a 2021 action thriller movie directed by Manu Warrier, written by Anish Pallyal starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Roshan Mathew, Mamukkoya, Shine Tom Chacko and others. Kuruthi is about a fight between two religious communities in the name of a boy Vishnu (Sagar Surya), who murder an opposite religion person during a debate when the person insults his religion. When this becomes a communal issue, the opposite religious members, along with the son of the person he murdered, Laiq (Prithviraj), try to kill Vishnu as revenge. On the way, the cops arrest Vishnu to take him to prison, Laiq also attacks them. SI Sathyan (Murali Gopi) and Vishnu somehow manage to escape and get into the house of Moosa Khader (Mamukkoya) on the way. At a point, Moosa Khader and his son Ibrahim (Roshan Mathew), Rasool (Naslen), had to protect Vishnu from Laiq due to a promise Ibrahim made. Still being the same religion as Laiq, Ibrahim’s decision to protect Vishnu led to a big fight between Laiq and Ibrahim, and later between the two religions.

Kuruthi is a thrilling flick that powerfully conveys the opinion on the current society. An unbiased and straightforward view against the extremists. The film mainly focuses on a single word – “HATE”, but a word that is the reason for all disharmony and war in this world. Here the hate is between two religious extremist groups. Sadly nowadays, we have been termed as Hindu, Muslim or Christian instead of categorizing as human. As long as there is hate inside one person, they won’t stop taking the weapon to kill the innocents.

Prithviraj Sukumaran as Laiq was a different character. The revenge and evilness in his eyes during the beginning was stunning. Kuruthi demands such an actor as him. Roshan Mathew‘s another good character selection. As Ibrahim, he was calm and neutral. Naslen as Rasool and Sagar as Vishnu was another perfect casting. They were amazing. They were so relevant to carry the story forward. Rest all casts like Srinda, Manikandan, Murali Gopi and others did well. The man of Kuruthi is Mamukkoya. He would have never done such a mass role like Moosa Khader in his career. He was a thug and mass in Kuruthi. He really deserves applause.

Technically the movie was flawless. The editing, cinematography and art team did a great job. The background score of Kuruthi was good. The song was okay. Manu Warrier‘s filmmaking was excellent. We will never feel this is a film from a debut director. He made this small thriller movie a different experience. Anish Pallyal‘s story was impressive and socially relevant. The beginning part was a bit slow, so it took some time to enter the actual plot. Also, they could have avoided the songs. Totally it was a fast-paced screenplay. Kuruthi is a recommended movie to all, especially to the extremists. The movie is an eye-opener.
