Bulbbul is a 2020 Bollywood Horror thriller written and directed by Anvita Dutt, starring Tripri Dimri as the main lead Bulbbul.

Anvita Dutt with her debut movie, emphasis various feminism factors. As the movie has been advertised as a horror movie, it sounds more like a thriller with less horror elements. The periodic story talks about Bulbbul, who is married to a much older stranger when she was child. As a child she grown up hearing various horror stories and fairy tales told by her brother in law, whom she consider as a good friend as they are almost the same age. The movie openly portrays the followed rules and restrictions for the women those days. Some times it felt they gave more importance to the feminism than the actual plot.

The strength of Bulbbul is definitely the cast. The Laila Majnu actress Tripri Dimri was a perfect choice as Bulbbul. The other casts like Avinash Tiwari, Rahul Bose, Paoli Dam did a good job. Some potential characters were not much utilized though and were incomplete. The cinematography by Siddharth and the Background Score by Amit was something amazing. Technically the movie was so glad to watch. Anvita Dutt directed the movie very well. The writing part could have been improved by giving more importance to the plot development and the characters rather than over glorifying feminism. Rather than a horror movie, this is more like a thriller with some shade of horror. The movie is also somewhat predictable.

Anushka Sharma hit it right by producing such a non stereotypical movie. The movie have some beautiful visuals and some amazing performances, which makes it a good watch, but don’t expect for a horror movie to get disappointed.

Stream the movie now on Netflix.

Review : Not horror, but a thriller which more talks about the feminism than the actual story. Though a different movie with much technical excellence and impressive star cast performance. Anvita Dutt directed the movie very well. This Anushka Sharma produced movie hit it right.
